So, how’s the audio book going?
Well, it’s going. Actually all things considered it’s not going bad but lets talk about all the things to consider. I absolutely thought there must be some place where I could record and it would store my records, mark where chapters were etc. Turns out—there’s not! (If there is please update me.) From everything I’ve gathered you record, upload your recording, format to what the provider wants the format to be and ta-da! There are services out there that will take your transcript and narrate it, however from unless you are willing or able to shell out some big cash (which is not me) then you are stuck with AI, (which I absolutely do not want). So instead it’s just me.
I am recording chapter by chapter for a few reasons. First I want to ensure my voice, energy, tone etc all stay consistent. It may be surprising but reading 2-3 chapters is about tops before the words start to trip up and my tongue needs a break otherwise my brain will start to run off script. Also by going chapter by chapter I am able to clearly see the amount of time and if there’s an issue I can re-record that chapter or small part which is easier to find when it’s already parsed down.
The other unique factor for me is external noise. We live only 2 miles from downtown, in a relativley active neighborhood and sometimes my dogs can get barky. So what I do is I prioritize records for 1-1.5 hours every weekday morning before working on day-job things as long as there’s nothing pressing. This is when the city is quiet and the pups are sleeping.
So, progress is moving right along but it is being chipped at day by day. Fortunately there’s still plenty of time to finish, compile and upload. Any ARCs who wanted an audio book have been provided a digital copy for now and will receive an audio in addition. For anyone looking to order the file will be available to download on the release date ( January 12th, 2026.)
