New Work In Progress
While I have a few ideas percolating and various short stories in some state of creation or revision this new work in progress has the main focus of my writing attention. I’m excited to see how this story develops and right now it’s more or less in its infancy. Yes, I know where the story is going and the plot beats, but with how I write a plot beat can expand into something I hadn’t planned. Characters have a mind of their own and sometimes take the reigns or even change my perspective. For example the one sister is gaining far more likeability and sympathy than I had originally thought, but that’s probably a good thing in aiding the complexity of her character.
So what’s it about? Imagine that the world is all flooded below the 48th parallel. People are existing in these flooded “former states” but one day the government announces that after “x” date there will be no more federal aid in the form of food, meds, fuel, etc. They offer to take refugees North if they can city to their state’s capitol by “x” date. The two sisters ( Ruth & Margaret) set out on their pontoon to head to Austin per the urging of their family to have and easier/better life elsewhere. Side note there are also celestial colonies where people who have previously and currently gone to live amongst the stars as the flooding began years ago. That’s all you’re getting for now in terms of plot!
