Get Lit Adult Book Fair - Dallas Public Library
This past weekend I took part in the Get Lit Adult Book at the Dallas Public Library. In the sea of options of book festivals, fairs, and conventions I have heard nothing but good things about the Get Lit events and the praise has come from authors whose opinions I personally value. This event absolutely did not disappoint!
Everything was really well organized, spirits were high and the attendees were excited to be there. This was not only my first festival with Get Lit but my first festival EVER! It was so busy and I’m very grateful for everyone who stopped by my space whether they bought a book or picked up free book mark or sticker.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect or how many books would sell but the numbers were great. Because I love transparency and want other authors (especially new authors) to see behind the curtain our sales included 40 books and 4 linocut prints.
It’s not just about sales though. I connected with SO MANY people! I hope anyone who was on the fence circles back, of course, but I’m just glad we had a moment to chat. To everyone who signed up for the newsletter— “HELLO”!
In regards to my booth display and set up overall I really loved it. I was sharing a 6ft table so it became very apparent to me how small 3ft is especially when you don’t want it to look cluttered. I think everyone looked nice and was well balanced. The bookshelf really caught everyone’s attention and fit the vibe perfect. I think there were only 2 minor adjustments I would make for future events. One would be to create a little laminated sign that is adhered to the front of the metal holder for the linocuts. Currently it was framed but I didn’t put that frame up because it made things too crowded. The other thing would be to make a attachable/detachable sign to put above the bookshelf (or somewhere) that says “Not Romance”. I’m still work shopping what that looks like exactly but there were people who were very excited that my books were not romantic. So I’d like to be able to cue to people that my books are not romance even for those who are looking and lurking from the middle of the aisles, in case they’re hesitant to come up.
All of this to say, I had a great time & will absolutely be back!
